A draft proposal is under consideration to establish a UK Green Building Council, similar to the very successful U.S. Green Building Council. The industry led proposal aims to create a united green building movement in the UK. The stakeholders (not sure who they are yet) hope to provide a coalition of interested groups, instead of the tangle of different organisations working towards reducing carbon emissions and the environmental impact of buildings.
This throws up a number of questions.
Do other forum users see the need for this?
Have we got enough organisations already?
Is the BRE the best organisation to run it?
Maybe it will serve to stitch together all the disparate groups.
Anyway, with all this in mind, the 'Green Building Press' has set up a new website specifically to monitor activities and news items related to the establishment of a UK arm of the Green Building Council. Follow the link below and bookmark it to keep up to date with the latest news. Green Building Council 'Watch'

No need for new organisation
Hope they dont want us to pay to join but then this is probably what it really all about!
Havent we got enough bodies already. Surely we must have!
Good idea to set a web site and look see how it goes.

There may well be a place for such a body but I'm not at all sure that BRE should be running it, if that is the intention. The Governing body of BRE includes senior people from Carillion, Arup and Rugby Cement - not top of my list of greenest organizations on the planet. There may be some mileage in having good links with big industry but there's something a bit odd about David Strong running both organizations at once.

There is now an official website for the UK GBC where you can download a prospectus. i guess this will lay out their plans.

Well it still doesn't say much, and I registered an interest a little while ago but havn't heard from them.
What are your views, Keith?

I also registered Biff. Give them a little time. I think the official launch is at Ecobuild tomorrow or Wednesday.
I'm afraid I would have to agree with your earlier concern over it being run by the BRE but i guess they are well placed to run something like this.
