Is there a thin effective insulation?

Katymacposted on 06-01-07
Is it light?
How thin can it be?

It is to put under (above?) plasterboard to cover my conservatory roof

No there is not a thin effective insulation.

I kinda thought that might be the situation

Bummer..............

So assuming a gap of about 1-2 inches is there any point putting anythig in the gap?

yes

eps or pur boards don't forget a vapour barrier.

The best performing insulation by thickness is rigid polyisocyanurite board and yes it is definitaly worth putting it in. It is the initial inclusion of any thickness of insulation which will give you the greatest saving in terms of your fuel bills. You can buy this at any builders merchant.

The other option is [if you believe it works] multifoil [read the thread on this and make your own mind up]

There are also some new materials such as aerogels but these are expensive and not readilly available.
