I'm planning to install a solar thermal system this summer, doing most of the work myself and using local plumbers/suppliers as appropriate. I've been quoted some steep prices for Schott/Viessmann panels through UK suppliers - has anyone successfully bought a single/two panels direct from either of these manufacturers? If so, any lessons/tips dealing with our manufacturing colleagues would be appreciated. Thanks!

there was a simular request some weeks ago with a sugested web site to visit.
I looked at it and they appear to have simular units to the ones you are buying

Yes, I think there was a pointer to Navitron - they looked good, and were quick and helpful when I emailed them. But I was wanting to match what looked like a cheap and cheerful collector with the Schott/Viessmann products. No worries, I will contact them direct (one says on their website they do not deal direct with individuals so that's one down for a start and I would not be surprised if others take the same view) and report back.

SolarTwin sell DIY Kits but some companies are protectionist about their equipment. This only really serves three questionable purposes:
keeping the cost up
implying higher quality product
keeping installers happy

I'm sympathetic to some extent, they are in business and have mouths to feed. But too many of the firms I have contacted about supply only charge a high prices for the parts only, clearly (in my humble opinion) making a huge margin. I would have thought they could supply at a more reasonable margin, and perhaps offer a charged for service around advice for when people like me call up in a panic (!) But perhaps that would expose their internal economics too much.
