We have damp coming through brand newly decorated walls of our granite house. The cellar is also very damp. This is a french house and they often do not damp proof when building. Any suggestions of what can be done, or put on the walls to eliminate the problem? Many thanks inh advance, will be very grateful.

Do you mean coming through or condensating on to your walls?

Sorry Tony, was waiting the 72hs before checking for replys! We think it is from the outside but can't be totally sure.

Have to suspect that you have condensation problem then. So do not get too concerned over this yet as it could be from initial building, all the extra water that is. Ventilate well and hope it goes away. If not, in say six months time, start looking at additional ventilation? MHVR etc. What insulation U-value do the walls have and how far south are you in France?

Hi Tony. Have been here over 2 years now and the house has been VERY well ventilated - we are fresh air lovers! We are north - west france - Brittany, a fairly damp climate. The only insulation is in the attic. You don't think using something like Thomsons Weather Shield on the outside walls would help?
