Heating and cooling: How do I post a photographic image, & what size allowed?

    Well, I can use browse to link straight to my computer but the image does not appear to want to "load"

    I think no more than 800 pixels in the longer dimension works.

    Ha ha. Yeah, and the brilliant thing about tinypic is that you can 'zoom' in closer on detail.

    The irritating bit is that the first '[IMG]' isn't active when posted on here, so the actual image doesn't appear. Seems to work OK on other forums. Peculiar to GBF?

    I'm sure it just works directly if the picture is small enough.

    Yes, that worked with Firefox and winxp, but not tried embedding from another source.

    What about using html tags for the image...
    Nope. That doesn't work. Hmm.

    No apparent restriction on tinypic though. Worth the wait for the upload to the tinypic site and available from there for any future postings.

    I think it's 600 across that the forum software restricts you to. Otherwise it will resize it for you.

    so it is the product of the width and height and the colour depth.
    But try 640 by 480 at 72dpi, it will look fine on here

    I had an image under 500k but wider than 600 and it shrunk it to 600 wide (and compressed it quite bit in a lossy way).

    Reposted at 600 wide and it was fine.

    The whole “[IMG]” and “[/IMG]” bits seem to me to be completely pointless. I think this forum's software doesn't take any notice of them and assumes (quite reasonably) that the closing “tag” is part of the URL which could be bad. It's just luck that tinypic seems to ignore it and still find the right image. They're an odd convention supported by a couple of other forum software packages (SMF and phpBB spring to mind) but it's nothing particularly special that the software running this one doesn't.
