General: And you think you had problems with the planners!!!
Can't see anything like that getting past our parish council!
Austria does neighbour Germany, the birthplace of Bauhaus and a pushing of the boundaires to the absolute limit. It does prove that Austrians have a sense of humour and express it creatively. Kind of love it, actually.
Now if you really want to see a planning aberration...
What's wrong with the Kidderminster jobbie, apart from timidity in detail (prob to please planners), that could have made it really good? Anchoring a new volume to those unusually huge chimneys is a gd starting point. Trouble is, it looks like a bloated version of its original self, rather than an evolution into something more interesting.
"How did they get this plast planning, dont think it would happen in this country."
Fantastic building. Like so many things, buildings are so much better when they have a sense of humour. Whats great is that the interior looks really nice too, it hasnt been compromised just to follow the "gimicky" exterior.
Far too many "architectural" buildings that have an artistic vision or theme will compromise everything else to express the exterior look of the building.

Re Kidderminster – I was going to say at least the windows match – but looked again and they don’t. It always surprises me when extensions don’t attempt to match. I have asked people (gently) why – for example - when they have brown UPVC windows with glazing bars on one side they’ve opted for plain white no bars on the extension. Usually similar answers – it was a bit cheaper, it’s what the builder could get etc etc or oh I hadn’t noticed (yes true).
For many ascetics don’t come in to it at all – simply max volume for min price, simple economics of use.
