Check out fires using "Verine's 420 Acclaim burner". ..

    Example...

    http://www.fireplacesaver.co.uk/details.php?id=807

Most web sites say Max Gas Input - 10.4kW (some 11.5kW) and the heat output is usually stated as "Decorative use only" or "produces background heat only".

How about almost any heater where the shop then leaves the door open?.... that really ought to be a criminal offence!
  2.
Terrible things to be sure - but generally sold as primarily decorative features, and not claiming to be primarily heating appliances, so your question is rather like suggesting I am the world's worst footballer ....

Well if you read the brochure there is no suggestion that these are for decorative use, what is more they are sold by a company which sells predominantly .... yes heating appliances so I have no doubt that some less well informed people will be buying these in anticipation of getting useful heat out of them.

dovre canopied stoves and gas fires are marketed towards siting in large inglenooks as a compromise to large grates. The smaller flue size needed for a dovre will massively reduce heat loss up the chimney when not in use. A large inglenook can replace all of the air in a room every 5- 10 minutes. The 2700 gas is inefficient but hot, the effect can keep the keenest of pyromaniacs satisfied.
