Radio 4 You and Yours today (starting from 2 minutes onto the programme).

As a result of the Prime Ministers commitment to 'roll back green levies' energy companies ECO commitments have virtually stopped, with hard to treat homes no longer being insulation.

The Green Building Council comment - some companies have only delivered 3% of their obligations whilst other have done better.

The greenest Government yet !! Makes you wonder.

I thought there was some confusion about what was happening. Some people where saying it was still ongoing (the energy companies) and others (the green building bloke) was saying that he thought it may stop. Seemed a bit of a non story to me.

The News tonight was about the profits of energy companies. Seems that since 2009 the profit per customer per year has gone up 75% to a totally corrupt and robbing Â£53. If I sold a grands worth of 'stuff' to someone I would hope to make more than that.

This was a direct quote. Would appear that some companies are sitting on their hands.

So we have some very poorly insulated solid walled homes in fuel poverty, long may it remain so, after all energy companies must improve profits!

"More than 98% of the energy-saving measures installed in British homes by government policies since January have been via the energy companies obligations (ECO) scheme threatened by David Cameron, new statistics published on Tuesday show.

The scale of measures installed under ECO far outweighs the green deal scheme, originally intended to retrofit 14m of the UK's old and leaky homes by 2020, which has completed just 219 households."

Does anyone have fresh serious doubts about domestic RHI as a result of these Conservative comments? About to push the button on a biomass installation ... and I know, I know, I shouldn't make the decision on the basis of subsidies, but it really is so crazily expensive without them that anything less than 90% probability that they will come in will see me dessert the cause and simply stick with oil ...

Have you looked a the Heat pump route , GSHP, ASHP how do cost compare with biomass boiler ?
Tied in with PV, might be better.
Certainly seems to be a underlying move to create an atmosphere of scepticism over all things 'green'

Moving the charge from the consumer's utility bill to general taxation should not affect the RHI. The big question though is the whole system of payments for 'green tech' up for review. We will know in a couple of weeks time after the treasury annual review statement.

Um ... yes, looked at it all! ... and in our situation, and looking over a 7 year period, when you strip out any potential for grants no possible 'renewable' approach is economically better for us than oil. Having said that a GSHP would probably come closest, but judging by the amount of rock found in our foundation trenches I begin to think I severely underestimated the groundworks budget.

nope, as RHI is funded from DECC's direct budget, not from the energy bills.

they've just started EWI on an estate near me, doing all the council owed solid wall properties , I presumed this was via ECO

It isn't renewable, but it'll spank oil on cost for "base load" heating:

I pay 11.6p/unit (flat rate). A seasonal COP >2 will spank oil on cost; these units out to manage 3-4 if used for base load heating. (you keep the oil for when it gets very cold, under 3C daytime temperatures or wherever you notice the COP hitting 2) but use the A2A heat pump for the bulk of your space heating demand)

Unless you're in a mansion I'd be wary of biomass: small scale systems are more of a PITA form a maintenance standpoint than they're worth.

I went to an Energy assessor meeting yesterday evening, where an exec. from St. Gobain was giving his opinion on the future of Green developments under this government. He is involved somewhere at DECC level and thought that ECO is going to be extended to 2017, but EWI might be taken out of it due to it's cost.
Spread the money further, cover more projects, but miss the biggest opportunity I say.

Hmm ... at some point aesthetics do play their part, and having A2A units hanging in every room, accompanied by the noise etc., would I think really, really get me down, whatever the small economic advantage might be!

quick note on ground work cost for GSHP , if you're sorting it out yourself . We did 3 x 75m slinky trench , 3 men x 2 day, 1 x 5 T digger , 1 mini-digger , 1 x 2 ton dumper. 1 x 20 ton lorry dug sand to bed pipes . On easy ground . Give you an idea of labour/plant cost.

I'm sorry ... but does anyone else have a recurring problem with this forum? You type away at a post, hit the 'Add Your Comments' button, and back comes an error message telling you to authenticate this and that etc.

Very clunky!

Plus the lack of direct messaging is a real pain ... why don't users get alerted to whispers ... is it really just a case of hoping they still follow the thread and also that they then happen across the whisper?

I always have 3 error messages before post goes through , always have had for 5-6 years or so, got used to it I guess.
I occasionally visit other forums and I'd have to say the type lay out and general look of GBF is the easiest on the eye.

And only around 4% of the measures carried out under ECO are for EWI to solid walled homes - less than 10,000 instalations.
