    I keep thinking:

Daffodils are up. Days are longer. Feels a tiny bit warmer. Could it be it is 'Spring 2014' yet?

    If so ....

... where/when is our grand announcement?!? Anyone got ANY clue?

Getting DISTINCTLY nervous about this whole charade ...

Nah! Haven't you heard of tempered springs? Tempered by their need to do something else, urgently.

Only 87 out of 500 biomass boilers currently accredited by MCS will qualify for RHI payments. See link:

    http://www.yougen.co.uk/blog-entry/2377/Number+of+accredited+boilers+for+domestic+RHI+/

    Caveat emptor!

So today is the day, I hope that someone within the civil service has pointed out that households burning timber is not the best route to home heating (though the RHI does cover other technologies), I would have thought that with last weeks high air pollution readings in London that would have been a gentle nudge to them.
I have been up in Buckinghamshire for the last few days and notice that the air quality is not the same as it is in Cornwall. Not as windy here, or as wet mind.

Today IS INDEED the day ...

    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/environmental-programmes/domestic-renewable-heat-incentive

    Officially launched.

And biomass has made the cut. Sorry Steamy - for us country hicks with no access to mains gas and who decided to go that route, it is a great relief!

A client who's been waiting for years for RHI for his pellet boiler etc, is now advised it doesn't qualify, tho it ticked all the boxes, with RHI in mind, at the time. Any idea what that's about, exactly?

At last I can help you fostertom! (well I think I can)

The ruling on emission standards for biomass only applies to new applications. If your client has already received the RHPP and is all signed off (ie. it is a legacy application) then they should be fine ....

Well - this link seems to work for me.

There's a lot of "missing" boilers at the moment though!

Seriously considering solar thermal. Was going to stick up some more pv as ive a immersion dump. But with RHI could net £3k in 7 years. That should pay for the ewi on the front of my house

The Broseley eVolution 26 boiler stove is listed as 'ineligible'.

"Ineligible technology type: biomass stoves with boilers must be pellet fired"

Row 5306 of the product spreadsheet.

Yep, and my on-gas property is eligible too. I think I could make a killing by putting in an A2W or biomass system and disconnecting the gas. The Green Deal chaps won't ask me to do anything with my conservation area flat which has massive sash and case windows and solid-walls, so my deemed heat usage, and the payments, are likely to be very high.

I won't do it, but I might just go down the process to see if I'm right here. If so, that's bananas, a strong financial incentive to install systems that are significantly less green than a high efficiency natural gas boiler.

Does the arrival of RHI revert the recent calc that PV + FITS has (had) become equal or even more economic than solar thermal?

Ah Ted ... you have an epic memory!

That's a shame about the eVolution 26 ... luckily I didn't get one in the end (it pumped out too much heat for the space in question) ... feel very sorry for anyone who has bought one but has not yet had it signed off/commissioned.

My calculations have been straight PV against straight ST (with no FITS or RHI) - and only considered the capital cost of the panels themselves. Has anybody done the calculations with either included?

Note that a PV+FITS system would involve quite a bit more capital cost than I've been assuming as it would need an inverter to convert to AC before feeding the immersion. AFAIK, there are no DC total generation meters approved for FITS (though I could well be wrong now as there was talk of at least one from Victron) and anyway you might have a hard time getting an MCS approved installer to do a DC to immersion system for you.

    Ah interesting
  4.
My posts probably a bit misleading I think most commercial ST installs are over £3k. RHI offering around approx £500+ pa depending on setup for 7 years so will cover install costs. My own situation means I can install system for far less making it more of a money making venture.
From what i understand payment would be higher relative to demand. Larger cylinder and no. of occupants increase payment
