So, I've blown it, I have no idea how I managed it but I have ended up with an adequate fall from the underside of my sink but no more - meaning a trap does not fit. Can I simply construct an in-line 'U' bend?

The supplied fitting attaches under the sink and immediately turns through 90 deg (with a slight fall) reaches the wall and here, instead of entering a trap, I want to turn through 90 to follow the wall and then immediately turn down through 90 deg say 10cms, put in the minimum length horizontal piece possible and then turn up through 90 deg, finally turn through 90 again to continue at the same height (albeit all on a adequate fall). The sink will be used daily.

Second question - could I put this homemade U Bend 2m away from the sink?

Yes inline fine. The only negative I can think of longer run before u is slightly more gunk build up in pipe prior to trap ??

From personal experience in my LA maintenance days - in-line U bends are brilliant. You get a good flow through them, but make sure you can keep the pipework from the sink clean. We used them a lot on rows of urinals in schools to stop the little bleeders from kicking the bottle traps off!! Nearly as good as putting plywood above the suspended ceilings - the sight of knuckle marks on the ceiling always made me smile!! Hopefully their hands healed, eventually!

HepV O. In line trap, not too special with grease but will work

Can you add a grease trap further along, even outside?

We had that but plumbing is one thing I avoid like the plague so take my comment with a mine of salt.

Well that's a relief!! Ta everso. I'll look again at whether I can make the homemade U Bend serviceable at the sink or whether I'll fit it where it is easily accessible but 2m 'downstream', but at least it'l work. I'll make sure the pipework is very clean Cerisy. Back up plan was horrible - 2 days hard work at least.
