    What's the problem with adding lime to the likes of Mastercrete if you want a softer mortar/render?

    Their literature says it "should not be mixed with additions or other cement types."

    I think the idea is it already has additives in its to improve workability etc. not sure though.
    Every jobbing builder I know slaps plastisier in anyway doesn't matter what make.
    I usually use basic cement (cheapest) and hydrated lime at 6/1/1 for above DPC work
    perhaps weaker for ACC blocks
