Posted By: willwestyour foaming glue approach as to whether it would hinder or cause problems with movement/shrinkage expansion of frame/boardsIn principle, both being timber based, should expand/shrink in unison - wd be different if say gluing fibre cement boards to timber. I think of this construction as like a plywood dinghy - a monocoque shell, in which a great deal of the usual timber can be eliminated - see how little there is in the interior pic - no noggings, no doubled or cripple studs, no beefed-up lintols, no extra members at horiz or vert corners just to fix board edges to, as the metal angle serves to join the board edges - plenty of glue on metal backing as well as glued/screwed to every joist/stud.
Posted By: willwesthow much structural contribution is the adhesive? The guys on here have said that engineers aren't allowed to assume any strength at all for on-site glueing - but that's obviously nonsense.
Posted By: willwestThanks for your replies. Ok - reassured now about using the glue - Joiner is sheathing tomorrow with marine grade D4 glue which should be bombproof. Have got Norboard 11mm so hoping quality is there re. airtightness, rejected Latvian no name batch at local BM.
Posted By: TimberWhat about Glulam? They don't use a D4 grade adhesive the manufacture of Glulam
Posted By: fostertomCheapest AFAIK is Caberfloor intended for gluing chipboard flooring to joists
Posted By: fostertomFix the EPS with just spray contact adhesive,Always liked this construction but architect and BCO (Scotland) was less than impressed (condensation risk!) and I could not face the fight!
Posted By: borpinless than impressed (condensation risk!)What's that about condensation risk?
Posted By: fostertom1) typically, with 6" studs/rafters with Warmcel between, 100 black EPS; with 4" ditto, 150 black EPS, so 10" overall - or could make that 12".Sorry - can't quite make out what you mean by this.
