i have an ex- local authority house which is just beginning to show signs of cavity wall tie erosion. I am proposing to carry out an eco- renovation and want to fit external wall insulation(as well as cavity insulation). Would this mean that the wall ties would not need replacing becsuse the EWI will protect from further corrosion.
Does anyone have experience of this?

If the wall ties are corroded they need removing / replacing. They can split the brick / block coursing as they expand and rust. If they look OK, the EWI may help slow the pace of corrosion, but they will not be accessible after, so be very sure.

Not sure about cavity insulation as well as EWI. May cause probs. Many advise filling the cavity with concrete or leaving open.

Ewi over filled . From memory most think its ok as long as ewi has high insulation value than cavity fill

Don't ask an engineer, they will protect their PI insurance!

I would think that they will be OK then I am an optimist
