Sorry should have referenced it back to the listed building thread. The old part does not have windows only triple glaze units direct into the stone surround.

I think the focus needs to be moved a little away from single item payback and towards application specific goals.
For instance, in my home, there is no heating system yet- this means that if I was to add ewi, a log burner and change the windows- it may fall short of the heating needed for a warm home without either 3g and a slightly higher spec ewi or I would need a gas combi.
In this scenario 3g is the cheapest and fastest overall payback.
