I'm trying to finalise my insulated foundations and have had a few quotes back, all of which vary by over 100%. So I'm going to price up the insulation myself, so as to get a better handle on the quotes.

My local suppler tells me EPS 300 will cost me £10.40/m2 net and would be a special order as it would have to be manufactured to order? Does that sound right?

Try the specialists such as Sheffield Insulation and Encon. Encon have always done really great prices for insulation and PB for me when I'm buying in bulk. Remember though to ask for Mechanical Off Load (the wee forklift on the back).

It was more the current price (£10.40/m2) I wanted to check, rather than who the suppliers are.

How thick is the EPS at that price?

It's not really special order.... just cut to order if an unusual thickness. And generally the price is pro rata by thickness anyway

Well current price will depend on the supplier to a large extent. Local merchants were 20% dearer even on bulk orders for the PIR I used.

I was informed that the EPS needs to be about 3 months old before you use it as it can still shrink a bit when fresh.
If your supplier says its a special order bear in mind the time from ordering to when you want to use it.

That price was for the 100mm thick stuff.

That's expensive and 100mm is a stock item where I am in S Wales. I think I paid about £18 recently per 2400x1200mm sheet (about £6/m2) A quick google finds it even cheaper at around £3/m2! http://ecclestons.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=58&gclid=CJLuiuPO58MCFY_MtAodIXUAmQ

I've been led to believe that EPS is aged in huge blocks prior to cutting

I think the OP is after EPS 300 and the stuff you found is EPS 70 Mike. Not a huge market for the stuff so special order sounds about right. Price doesn't sound that bad for what it is. Remember though that for your foundations that it is unlikely to be all EPS 300, they will use EPS 70 or 100 wherever loads will allow.

Ah, missed that Willie - rookie mistake :)
