https://www.greenparty.org.uk/assets/files/manifesto/Green_Party_2015_General_Election_Manifesto.pdf

A few choice bits from the manifesto:

A free retrofit insulation programme, concentrating where fuel poverty is most serious, aiming at achieving Passivhaus refurb standard in 9m homes

All new homes to be built to Passivhaus standard

Investment in training for the design and building industries. Introduce a national college for training in energy home improvement

Nice idea but not quite sure how the finances work out on the first one. They are suggesting they will offer £5k free insulation and a further £15k in loans, but I think you're going to need a lot more cash than that on the average property!

Posted By: owlmanOnce we're back in the (new), stone age I wonder where all the dosh and jobs are going to come from. I guess some will be building the windmills, others tilting at them, but we can we all retire to our cosy passivhäuser.
To answer that question (which is posed so as not to invite an answer, but as a negating rhetorical reaction), check deeply into the Transition ('Transition Towns') material, and read Charles Eisenstein: The Ascent of Humanity http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ascent-Humanity-Civilization-Human-Sense/dp/1583945350/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1429181853&sr=1-1&keywords=ascent+of+humanity and realise why the future cannot be just be a projection of the past, as it has been fopr the 5-10k yrs since the agricultural revolution. Here on GBF, of all places!

Posted By: gravelldThat's the third point isn't it?

Sorry left out just - should have read "would just fund a training programme". But I do think Building Control is where to start. Who else is in a position to implement large scale change in the building industry? And I am serious about training by building trade professionals from this forum - how else will you find suitable trainers in the UK?
