    I see that eBuild has announced its closure

    ebuild is sad to announce its closure - it has become too time and resource intensive to develop, manage and maintain.

    WTF? All over the VH thread? I loved posting on this forum and ebuild. That's a great shame. Something very dodgy about all that discussion on that thread.

    Yes, a very unfortunate bit of bad news. Some very useful info on there will now be lost. All those items that people have bookmarked will be lost. Hopefully someone will be able to permanently archive the lot at least.

    Better still, hopefully there will be a change of mind.

    I am gutted, yes all the historic knowledge will be lost, just when I am about to start asking a lot of questions!!!!

    I pray that someone will take up the mantle and carry it on, I do hope so.

    The web site says ...

    However, ebuild will remain on-line in archive mode (ie no posting facilties) for several weeks so that users can use it as an information resource.

    So get in there and get copying before it's too late.

    I would be happy to support the return of ebuild on a "Not for profit" basis. It was too good a resource to loose.

    I'm not that IT savy (once upon a time I was and that was in the days of NT4!) but my company has a full time IT team of 4 who could assist.

    I however have no means by which to contact the owner/administrator of ebuild so if you're reading this or know how to do so please feel free to drop me a private message.

    To be absolutely clear I have NO commercial interest (I have enough to do thanks!) but would love to see it survive.

    Hopefully there won't be too many hurdles for a 'takeover'.

    DB is the owner and the company is called Webguides Online limited, Google is your friend.

    Maybe you could email him at the address he suggests on ebuild complaint (followed by @ symbol) ebuild.co.uk.

    They appear to have banned EC2 IPs which is a bit of a bummer if I want to mirror this site. Don't want to do it from my own computer, we have bandwidth limitations!

    Anyone know how big the site is once downloaded, including images?

    Could try Digital Ocean et al but it's a bit of an effort if they are banned too. Anyone from ebuild listening that could whitelist one specific EC2 IP?

    Any implications with copyright etc?

    Having said that I am currently doing a test download now onto a home PC - so I can let your know the size. Any legal bods can tell me whether I've broken any laws. It's for personal use - losing all the the info and useful contributions on that site is painful. Hopefully it can either be re-resurrected or archived permanently.

    Having just been pointed towards there by a friendly member here I discover it is just shut. Sadly not accepting new members, so I can't even download jpegs/drawings/attachments etc. :cry::cry::cry:

    I'd happily chip in/subscribe to keep it up and running...

    Its circa 16Gb if you look at the whole site - depending on how you would want to extract the data then using it for anything but personal use would need you to get the approval of DB as the owner of Webguides. I know some of the content was listed as copyright to others.

    I just popped over to update a thread with my foundation woes! No!!! Someone has to download the site, we can't lose all that info! I'm basing my whole build on stuff I learnt there and here :(

    How do you download the whole web site, is there a guide to how to do it?

    If they don't have an email address or anything in their profile you can also whisper comments to them by adding their user name in the “Whisper your comments to” box when posting. Then only they, you (and, I assume, the forum administrator) can read the comment.

    A few here have suggested buying the ebuild web site, how are your negotiations going? I get the feel there could be a lot of interest!
