Hi all, I too will miss ebuild and its wealth of knowledge.
I've just started my journey, and revised all my plans after reading posts on there.
Stuff I didn't know - insurances yes for the site but for others, I'm a sparks and have my own! Notices to go up for public - Health and Safety etc etc

Many thanks to tofast4u for his offer of keeping ebuild archive alive.
I'm sure it meant with the best intentions

I tried span onclick and button elements earlier and the forum just ate them. So what did you do?

PS: Ah, something to do with missing out the slashes before the authority section of the URL. Also, https rather than just http. Something to do with the forum software trying naÃ¯vely to treat references as relative URL?

I think someone's messed with the URL parsing in the past, because vanilla doesn't normally make this much of a hash of things.. The anchor version is a bit of abuse, dropping the slashes seems to stop the parser from mangling it up, and then we rely on Chrome and Firefox being able to go there even though the url is malformed. Interestingly the same technique doesn't work for http so the destination site has to support https.
IE is more of a pain in the arse, doesn't like the missing slashes so I had to hit it another way..
That one is a "protocol relative" url, a seldom used feature of the spec whereby if you start a url wih double slashes the browser will keep you in the same protocol when travelling to the nominated host.. Seldom used because I guess few sites are dual http/https with a requirement to keep the user in whatever they chose when sending them away. Most sites these days are either http or force redirect to https. It's another case where it seems to confuse the parser enough to leave it alone as a form action, though not in the case of hrefs alas.. Perhaps styling the button to look like a link would then work, but I was hoping for a simple solution that anyone could use without writing an acre of html.. Fixing the parser would probably be easier

Well then it is about time something was done about the ridiculous posting categories we have on here - one of E Build's huge strengths was that it was well organised. I am sure their file hierarchy isn't copyright protected. I vote for an immediate change to the E built structure (with minimum changes) and just dump all the existing threads on an 'Old' category.

Ebuilds sub sub sub forum organisation was a nightmare - far too many, made mobile nav horrendous. "Plumbing" would have been fine, no need for "kitchen plumbing", "bathroom plumbing", "WC plumbing", "outside plumbing", "underground plumbing", "appliance plumbing"..

After all, when building a house, one just calls a plumber. One doesn't call in a separate tradesman to do the kitchen pipes vs the bath pipes..

I also thought that about s link someone posted in the fag smoke nuisance thread, went off to some site where they were talking about white noise and smoke but I hadn't hit a clue what was going on. it's interesting to see that eBuild is still getting around 150 visitors each 30 minute period. From what I've seen this figure has remained about the same during the 3 weeks since Dave stopped (ex)members posting.
