Guys, I appreciate that this may not be the right section to ask in but here goes! I've recently bought a six year old house that has had the loft flooring lifted and the entire area has had about six inches of additional insulation glass fibre insulation added over the joists adding to the original four inches between the joists making about ten inches in total.

I want to re-lay the flooring to give me much needed storage space but I want to keep the insulation value of the glass fibre so do not want to compress it. How would members deal with this please?

    Many thanks

That is fantastic, very many thanks. The other day I called into my local Jewsonas and explained what I wanted only to be met with lank faces and we have never been asked for something like that and cannot you just compress the glass fibre by putting the boarding down on it. No conception of the loss of insulation value doing that! The Screwfix product works out expensive for a wole loft on the bases of a pack at £20 to fix down three boards. I will see if there is a cheaper product but great that there are products out there.

    Cheers

I used 50x50 props 300mm high and 50x50 bearers then osb but crucially left a 50mm ventilation space over the 500mm of quilted insulation

cant see why you would want to pay so much for plastic spacers

Or you could build shelves attached to the trusses, either DIY battens or buy the specific brackets. 500mm of loft roll sounds good!
