    About wood. Not sure if it helps, but FYI, about twelve years ago I fitted softwood windows from Poland "Adpol" 3g.

    I do understand these days there are growing concerns about felling of old growth boreal forest, but the pine these windows are made of has to be experienced to be believed.

    Here is a pic of a piece which is off-cut just from the packing crate/pallet they came on.

    Oh, and it sinks in water. Yes, it has density > 1. I didn't know that was even possible for pine. Hardly surprising it took three of us to lift the big one in!

    I can't say what they make them of nowadays mind you..

    IIRC they only deal with architects or large scale builders. Some people have had success just getting an architect to submit the quote for them.
