    Hi there

We love our funky curvey shower..it has a pigmented cement render finish, but needs to be sealed more effectively. I used johnstones water seal but the water still penetrates the render, especially lower down the shower walls.i dont want to paint it with marine or pool paint as some people have done..I like the pigment colour. I'm just looking for an effective clear sealer.

    The construction (outside to inside):

    Solid studwork
    Aquapanel
Bal tanking membrane (with corner and joint tape)
    notched Skim of tile cement
Cement render with bal sbr and powder pigment
(The shower floor is tiled,by the way)

It all works well,no leaks, but the render holds moisture, and we've had a little mould forming.(I need to get a more effective extractor fan,but that's another story). What I'd like is for the water to roll off the walls like water off a ducks back!

I've been looking at epoxy sealers for concrete worktops (water based). Does anyone know if this will work? Any ideas, suggestions, advice gratefully received.

    I'm sure there's a product out there...

    Cheers

    Jules

Have you tried looking at clear external brickwork/masonry sealers. Some have silicone in them and don't discolour the masonry. I suspect it'll be suck it and see in the first instance, plus repeat applications over the years.
    e.g.
    http://new.nvirol.co.uk/exterior-waterproofer/21-silicone-water-seal-5-litre-.html

    There are plenty of others.

Thanks Owlman. The sealer I used is for exterior masonry too. If I remember rightly, it mentioned 'micro silicone' on the tin. Maybe I just need a lot more sealer! The epoxy sealer sounded more hard wearing and long lasting though.

I have lime walls in my shower, although not directly under the shower itself. So they get splashed rather than hosed. The lime has clay paint on it. It seemed to be fine, but just to be safe I painted the area inside the shower with Stormdry. It does seem to work: the water beads up and dries off. And it is almost invisible: you can see the edge if you know what you are looking for, but not otherwise.
  1.
I have Venetian Plaster in my wetroom and that is sealed with different oils and waxes. It might be worth investigating what types are used.
