General: New suspended floor (best insulation method)

    I am going to do a suspended timber floor and will have oak floorboards on top.

    Reading about the insulation choices it seems the soft insulation is better than the rigid sheets. So i am going to go with this.

    My joist depth will be 145mm i think. The void underneath is going to be the minimum of 150mm.

    Is it a case of packing the joist with the insulation and use netting to hold it up. Then lay a plastic membrane over the joists and then new floorboards down ?

    As it is new build should i be doing something a bit different ?

    What U value will you get with 145mm of 'fluff'? You need 0.22W/m2K for extensions (p.16 of Approved Doc L1B).

    On the kanuf website it seems to say 150mm between the joist of a floor will get 0.22w/m2k, so this seems ok. I do have some 170mm stuff left over from a job i worked on ages ago. Would 170mm stuffed into a 150mm space be ok? OR would i need to remove a little. Seems a shame to waste 2 rolls.

    If it's supported underneath by a net then just leave the net a little slack so there's a bit more room. It should be fine.

    Apart from the cold bridge through the joists themselves.

    No because I would start with a layer under the joists :smile:

    Well even on this new build i don't think i can fit the boards this way, plus would need to dig out even more for the floor.
