We have a taped membrane of rigid insulation. I'd like to attach carrier board and lime plaster over the top of it, but I'm worried that screwing through the insulation into the joists will affect the performance of the vapour control layer. Does anybody have any thoughts?

We had to staple the membrane and then fix battens through it to create the services void. Those holes are closed up by the staples used and the battens over the top - not a big worry.

    Thanks @Cerisy

If boards are tight to batten/board with membrane trapped it is never a problem.

OCD drill facing board tiny squirt of clear silicone then put screw in.

Thanks @tony - ours is just a barrier made by taping the joins in the rigid insulation.

On my battens I used regular dabs of No Nonsense Roof and Gutter Sealant, because it is cheap as chips; something like 1.50 a tube if you time it right with Screwfix pricing and buy enough. Stand the tube in a bucket of hot water for half an hour before use. Maybe even put the gun back in the water between uses, otherwise you'll have forearms like Charles Atlas. That said, any "goo like substance in a cartridge" from the pound shop might be easier to use, and cheaper
