Had a glitch with our new fridge. A puddle appeared from under it and just presumed it was the drain but as it turned out the tank that the drain goes down to was overflowing. The tank sits on the compressor and I presume is supposed to evaporate all the water.

Not quite sure of the reason but suspect it's this. A combination of lots of fridge door opening due to chain tea drinking guests, stupidly high humidity and a fridge that doesn't need to run much. Just couldn't evaporate the water as fast as it filled. Not had problem since the cooler dryer weather.

I have a slightly rubbishy upright side-by-side fridge freezer. I'm considering hacking the controls so that:

The 'freezer' bit operates at fridge temperatures.
The 'fridge' bit operates at larder temperatures.
Defrost element is disconnected (no needed anymore since freezer is now no longer a freezer).
I should then end up with a much better insulated fridge.

A lower tech hack is just to improve the insulation on a standard fridge.
