We have mould problems on all our bedroom walls facing away from the sun. All guides I have come across suggests MVHR extract valves in bathrooms and kitchens and supply valves in other rooms - is this still the way to go if the mould problem is exclusively in bedrooms?

Difficult, basically yes but there are other options, single room HRV fans, dehumidifier, external wall insulation, there are lots of remedies.

    What's the existing insulation like?
you need to reverse the natural flow of moist air to the cold damp north walls, ive made it work with one like this

extract bathroom inlet in 2 north facing bedroom worked well , triple glazing has improved it even more still need to do EWI on N wall , this year hopefully , been on the to do list for about 7 years !
