    No, you would need anhydrous copper sulphate and several lorry loads would last a year.

    Has anybody tried using a desiccant dehumidifier? I see there is a solar thermal powered product in the US, but I have no idea whether that's any better than using PV to power a normal one.

    Got a desiccant dehumidifier - extremely good. Don't think of buying a compressor-type one - only efficient in the hot humid tropics.

    I've just done a back of the envelope for Bodmin airfield (Warleggan) from the historic data on the weather underground site - for the whole of 2016 I get an average due point of around 7.25 degrees (I'm not sure its valid to average due pint temperatures like this but it will be close-ish) This when air with a duepoint of 7.25 degrees is heated to 20 deg C it gives a RH of about 45% - with a massive moisture buffer in the fabric of a house I can see it is possible to keep internal RH in this region for a whole year.

    I think it is very easy to sucker ourselves into believing that a 'damp' climate is a lot worse than it really is.

    Here is the mean air temperature and RH for Gander, NL (so far this year), Gander is at a latitude of 50°N, so the same as Hayle.

    Mean Temp 7°C
    Mean RH 79%
    Mean Dewpoint 3°C

    Mean Temp 13°C
    Mean RH 85%
    Mean Dewpoint 10°C

    So while that are different, and only for a part year, they are similar on RH

    Not sure the mean RH is the issue though. It's times like this when outside RH is 100% with 15C and it's been similar for days.

    Gander has a much flatter RH distribution when binned by temperature than Hayle, but still not that different.
