I just came across this, has anyone done it? I wonder if still going? We have ASHP and it sounds interesting. I'd like to know what use is being made of the data too.

https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/files/docs/drhi_essentialguidetooptionalmonitoring_v2_0_mar_2016.pdf

To my mind its something that should have been a requirement from day 1 of RHI, in my case (2015 install not requiring monitoring ,but piped to accept a heat meter if needed) the system efficiency is based on the boiler alone, as a result the level of insulation apllied by the installer was woefull, i spent many hours insulating exposed pipework and then upgrading just about all the other insulation. I’d estimate it saved around 5kg of pellets a day on average, which equates to an annual pellet saving of 15% . Losses from the buffer alone dropped from 8 degrees over 12 hours to between 1 and 2 depending on time of year. Such initial losses from an MCS approved install for me makes a mockery of the scheme.

I am signed up an receiving the RHI for our heat pump. It was this additional monitoringscheme, that I agree sounds as if it should have been in place from the outset, that I was wondering about. I too beefed up the short runs from ASHP to the cylinder.

Four years ago, we signed up for a DECC approved trial of heat pump control systems, which came with a monitoring system as well.

We had an approved heat meter installed, electricity meter on the heat pump with wifi connectivity, an additional electricity meter with wifi to the import supply, and several temperature sensors around the house. All data was sent to a router communication box and back to the trial organisation. There were manufacturer approved modifications made to the heat pump to start/stop and set differing flow temperatures.

The system worked very well: all we had to do was to set the desired comfortable temperature.

I also got the weekly data from which I worked out the weekly SPF. I could also separate the heating component from the DHW component.

In terms of results, we had a design SPF of 3.1, a working SPF of 3.2 using the manufacturers set up and SPF over 3.4 for the trial system.

Unfortunately, the communication electronics were not reliable and packed up 12 months ago. There does not appear to be anything out there to replace it. Moreover, the trial organisation decided not to proceed with any further development.

Hello all, I'm just bumping this discussion up. Is there still any metering and monitoring system in operation? I'm going to have to install a metering system anyway, so I think it makes sense to install a system, if I can (particularly as you get paid over £1,000!). I'm struggling to find any information on anybody that offers this service!
