It's written by american architects though. Sometimes the trouble with these books is that they are based on building practice in the US which doesn't always translate well to what works (or what builders are used to) in the UK.

Surely the point of what you're looking for is that it is independent of local practice? It is based on physical principles instead? But taking your point, I'd say that American practice (or even just USA practice) covers a wider range of conditions than we have here in the UK. So it shoud have relevancy. If the book uses a geographical breakdown for any parts, then the bit for New England is likely to be fairly relevant (the name's a clue ) and perhaps a bit more extreme than conditions here, so safe to use.
