I'm having a look at designing a timber frame house with rendered masonry veneer, with basement.

Can anybody point me in the direction of good thermal detailing at the basement to ground floor external wall junction? Insulation and drainage layer likely to inside of basement structure.

I would say drainage outside basement structure simplest solution is what you sure looking for and fail safe.

Join insulation to that in the basement seamlessly

But with drainage layer inside it's easily repairable by simply removing insulated lining. Better to assume nothing is failsafe. Our experience with waterproofing outside or waterproof concrete is that somebody invariably screws up.

Not quite because outside face of wall is blockwork, so cold bridge where blockwork sits on concrete basement wall.

Was thinking about a marmox thermoblock either inside or outside leaf for thermal bridge.

    Passivhaus Details Book

I'm with Tony on the drainage. edit: Add an internal drainage layer afterwards (and at the builder's insurer's expense) if the external one really does fail.

Why the [apparently totally redundant] external blockwork?
