My order for 250mm EPS has been cancelled by Jewsons as I'm not a accredited installed, which is annoying. I can get the stuff elsewhere easily enough (our local Jewsons is great - flexible on prices and helpful, hence using them) but the Jewsons guy was adamant we should consider getting it installed by 'pros' for insurance reasons. He thought we'd have problems getting insuarance for a self-instalation.

Now I'm confident I can do this myself plus the only vaguely local EWI installer quoted a lot, more than makes that worth considering.

Any experience of the insurance issue here?

Hi, (another DIY EWI jobbie here) sorry to ask the obvious, but what were you looking to insure against which you can't fix yourself?

The local EWI companies did not want to do anything beyond 100mm and similar to you charged more than would be worthwile. With hindsight I now know why as it is quite labour intensive.

What do you/jewsons mean by insurance.

is it a new build limited warranty scheme (e.g. LABC). or
do you mean regular buildings insurance, or
    the EWI scheme guarantee?
    Insurance-backed guarantee?

    I meant regular buildings insurance.
Obviously one cannot speak for the ins'ce co's, but you should be able to get a supplier to certify that you have installed to the letter of their 3rd-party certification, either with photographic evidence of the 'sign-off' of their peripatetic technical bod.

If you proved this I am not sure what further issue the ins'ce co would have.

Chris Hirst of ClanProducts NW sales@thinjoint.com 07703 538785 is well known in GBF circles as independent supplier of EWI materials, willing to travel the country and always helpful and knowledgeable.

With independent confirmation from likes of him, that EWI isn't rocket science and unlikely to harm the house, you could approach your insurance co.
