    We currently rent 2 mobile offices which we will need for the next 5yrs minimum. It appears we'd be better off financially buying them outright and selling at the end of the project.

    Or would a timber frame ' temporary' office be better financially and environmentally?

    Any thoughts on suppliers or even designs?

    Ex shipping containers make good temporary offices, are easily transported and have a resale value.

    Our current offices are essentially shipping containers that have been refurbished.

    We have 2no. 20ft x 8ft containers with two windows and one entrance door to each, already kited out with electrics and radiators but to get them off hire the company want £7150.00 + VAT each and £1200.00 + VAT for the external staircase (offices are stacked)

    I don't think we could get a 40ft container down on site due to restricted lane access

    So essentially I'm not sure of the best option... Ideally we want 4 desks in the office.

    Do you think £15k could build a slab and timber frame construction? Cladding could be done at a later date...

    But, from an eco point of view, is a reusable, already 'recycled' shipping container not better than a wooden shed on a slab that probably won't be useful / used for anything at the end?

    That said, I'm sure a large garden shed company would be a fair bit cheaper; just depends on what you want for a fit-out spec... Or a SIP company!

    The boss owns the farm we are based on and there are plans to build a large house and offices, I was hoping that the final slab for the offices could be built now which will be 13.5 x 6.2m

    The final design is of block build but I'm trying to direct down the timber route...

    Job done then - who isn't going to want a nice big shed with power and water with their house??

    I think I paid about £2.5k each for two shipping containers that were done out as offices. Not brand new by any means but have done the job (still do), have electrics, windows, door. I would shop around if I were you because £7k seems expensive.

    Don't forget that a 'large shed' will be subject to building regs, and that a concrete slab with a building fastened to it (because of building regs) will not be a 'temporary' building, so will require planning permission.

    In short, you could build the final shed/office that the owner wants first (as I did with my garage) or you could place a couple of containers temporarily on site, but trying to build a 'temporary' structure might bring a load of red tape.

    We're going to opt for a second hand anti-vandal office and throw in a heat pump.

    Any recommendation on a supplier? Seems to be loads on eBay..
