Looking at property refurb project, currently has a 10yr old system boiler and cylinder. Looking to put in a new boiler not necessarily because it needs one but for increased saleability...

New system boiler - easy plumbing, swapping like for like

    or

Combi - A lot more plumbing, no standing heat losses, greater appeal to buyer perhaps?

I have come across the Intergas Rapid model which can actually be used as both mind...

    Thoughts?

I personally wouldnt be without my system boiler... Hot water tank is topped up by excess solar via the immersion, and if there was a problem with the boiler the immersion can also be switched on to give us hot water.
Important with a 5 year old in the house.

Like for like replacement with a boiler that has a long guarantee. Get it installed properly and registered with manufacturer. Buyers like the idea of “new” whether they get it serviced to maintain the guarante is upto them.
As above a cylinder with an immmersion is always a handy back up.
Add extra insulation to the cylinder, buyers won’t be interested in standing losses for the most part, ( unless you’re going for an ecobuild)
Another advantage is that the boiler and insulation should help with the epc values. A good solid “c” rating is a good plus point to mention to potential buyers.

A 10 year old boiler will be condensing and, I'd have thought, not significantly less efficient than what you'd replace it with. It could easily have five or even 10 more years life left in it.

Unless it's something really crappy surely the greenest thing to do is not to dispose of it while it is still working.

Get it serviced and tested by a gas safe engineer and any buyer is likely to be happy with the current boiler with a clean bill of health.

What state is the tank in? If that also needs replacing then a system boiler and a mains pressure hot water tank is hard to beat in my opinion. Megaflow is just one brand of tank, others maybe cheaper.

If you have a combi and took the tank out, could you do something more useful with the space it frees up? In our case the extra space allowed a storage rejig that converted a single bedroom into a double, which made the house better to live in and more saleable.
