    @djh, are you sure a linear model would work? Surely Newton's law of cooling kicks in, such that a hotter body loses heat more quickly. not sure about efficiency of transfer from solar thermal at different temperatures. Presumably something similar will happen with the coolant - the hotter it is, the quicker it's going to lose heat before it reaches the heat exchanger in the heat store?

    I don't think a linear model is correct, but it is simple and I don't think accuracy is all that important. By all means use Newton's law instead.
