Could someone tell me if the combination of an ASHP and a wood burner with a back boiler feeding into a thermal store tank will work? The tank will then supply hot water and heating for our house which will have a combination of UFH and radiators.
I have had conflicting info off of installers with some saying it will work and others saying not. Your comments are welcome.

I have this setup. Mine is a bit of a hodge podge though.
The previous owner of this house had the thermal store, wood burner and oil boiler installed.

I've since replaced the oil boiler with a cheap DIY install heatpump. The controls leave something to be desired but with a bit of babysitting it does the job. I hope to replace the controls at some point but for my particular heatpump that is not so straightforward.

The issues I have with the system are that if someone wants a shower I need to manually crank up the output of the ASHP around 30-45mins before hand (depending on outside temp) so that it can get up to temperature. I also have to make sure the central heating is not running otherwise the heat goes into the house and the store doesn't get up to an adequate temperature.

On especially cold days or when a bath is required we light the wood burner as this gives us plenty of hot water for both CH and baths.

Lastly I still have lots more insulating and draft proofing work to do on the house so I'm confident that it will improve over time.

Despite it's shortcomings I am pretty happy with our system. If you can get a properly designed and integrated system I am sure it will work well for you.
