Washing dries ok on a very cold, low rh windy day though!

It dries quite quickly if frozen solid too!
If you turn the fridge temperature too low the cheese dries out and goes rock hard.

Hmm, but if you freeze cheese, it appears quite normal after thawing. So has it dried out?

I think that depends on whether it's fully wrapped (in which case it thaws OK ) or not?

    Heater arrived all set up

Keeps cutting out, appears there's a tilt switch, knocking it off. The manual says it can be tilted 45deg but I've measured it at 8deg

Not very useful to dry a floor at that angle

Quite possibly. I would never dream of putting anything in the freezer unwrapped!

So adjust or cut out the tilt switch?

Careful, VE is doing this for work, not hobby, so is subject to H&SWA, PUWER etc. Illegal to tamper with safety cutouts of 'workplace' equipment.

That was exactly my thoughts, no way am I opening up a brand new bit of kit and tampering.

The manual also said 'do not use an extension lead' or 'do not leave unattended'

How else you going to leave on to dry in an empty property...

Pack sarnies, a flask and a sleeping bag - sit and watch it for many, many hours until you get bored with all the stuff on your phone - turn off IR lamp, open windows, leave for home

    Regards

Since you bought it online/mail order, just return it. Get your money back and buy one that meets your requirements.
