    What ho one and all,

I have some outdoor stainless steel fittings holding the balcony glass in place. A large circular thing, bolted to the vertical with two clamps for the posts.

May be I made a bit of an error at the time of ordering (12 years ago) but as we are in leafy Surrey, decided not to pay the extra for marine quality s/s.

Now there is clear evidence of rust around the clamp and fixing bolts. Not bad jsut yet, but will not get better by itself. The posts, glass clamps and top rail are all fine.

What can I do to clean the rust and prevent it re-occurring?

    Toodle pip and thanks

    Rex

Rex asked: "What can I do to clean the rust and prevent it re-occurring?"

You maybe have A2, whilst marine is A4? Anyway the first hit on google is as good as anywhere, I think: https://www.rust.co.uk/product/cat/rust-removing-treatments-16

You can remove rust, you won't be able to stop it recurring again. I suppose you could paint it with a clear lacquer, but if that isn't perfect....

Dave's Rusbuster site is mainly about classic car de-rusting and preservation, but is very clued up about products and techniques on a non-industrial, almost DIY level. Recommended.

Have the clamps/bolts, on the " large circular thing " been welded to it?
