General: How old is my electricity meter?

    Hi all

    I've been having a read through a lot of the smart meter posts on the forum lately.

    In one of the threads I learned that the cerification perod for an induction meter (old spinny disc) which is the type I curently have, is 10 years.

    Mine has a sticker on the front which reads "Certified R1/0157/06"

    I cant find anything on the web that deciphers this, but I can hazard a guess that "06" is 2006.

    Anybody know?


    Any words of wisdon would be greatly appreciated.

    Mine has a little sticker on it saying "Certified 05 88".
    That's for the kind with the disc but a digital display.
    Another has the display of a row of little clocks some going backwards. No obvious system to the reference number, but looks much older.

    I guess you've got PV Cliff. Mine did that too until they twigged and quickly changed it.

    I think he means ones where the clocks go in alternate directions because of the way the dial for one power of 10 is geared to the next higher power. E.g, the units, hundreds and 10 thousand dials might go clockwise while the tens and thousands go anticlockwise. I think those were pretty old even 30 years ago.

    My last house, sold within the last few years, had one of those...
