Following some discussion with enhabit about a year ago, they sent across some details of an a bespoke assessment they can do to improve the thermal efficiency of your house.

Some really interesting stuff in what they provided, will some standard elements and some more “radical”. One of the less standard solutions that maybe appropriate to some houses are the rebuilding of solid wall to integrated a new cavity wall. Essentially taking down the outer leaf (like you see for extensions to Victorian / Edwardian homes to reuse the stone) and rebuilding with a cavity and new wall ties:

I’m interested to hear peoples thoughts on this, especially anyone who has done it.

On a side note, redoing the basement floor with insulation was also highlighted, and wondered if anyone has done that and what difference has it made?

The cavity solution sounds fraught with practicalities and expense, and the basement floor idea would need more explanation and context - what is it meant to achieve as part of the wider plan.

I should imagine the insertion of a cavity would be very expensive, but I was just surprised to see it at all as I had never heard of that solution.

On the basement floor, apologies I don’t really have massive amounts of details on that, just interested if anyone has done it, especially as our existing basement floor could probably do with redoing

Well if you think about it most good 'treatments' for older houses include wrapping something round the outside - EWI, Larson Trusses, and so on - so a new cavity wall is only an extension thereof, but you'd need so many lucky circumstances not to make it impossible.

I have insulated basement floors, but only as part of wholesale basement insulation, hence my inability to comment on the efficacy of that as a 'stand-alone' measure without context. So many other facts would need to be known. You have me interested, though, in their rationale.
