It's that time of year again and my old petrol mower needs replacing. I'd looked at EGO mowers and would appreciate any help; does anyone have any experience of them.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has an exchangeable battery, and perhaps buy two batteries, so you can continue mowing whilst the first charges up. Also consider what other tools/devices the batteries can be used in.

    I have three cordless mowers:
    1) a smallish Bosch model - it works OK but doesn't get used much these days
    2) a largish Parkside model - it works well and has been excellent value - the strong blade chews up whatever it meets
    3) a medium Worx Landroid robomower - it works OK, but gets stuck quite a lot both by going out of bounds and by getting jammed by small twigs (it uses 3 razor blade-style cutters) but it still does most of the mowing these days

I don't have any experience with Ego.

I have had an EGO lawnmower for around five years without any problems, so far. Since I bought mine I've noticed the prices have increased a fair bit. I've also bought a range of different EGO garden tools and they have all worked well. I have a 5Ah and a 2.5Ah battery and a 47cm self propelled mower. The 5Ah will just about cut all the grass in the garden on one charge, half acre garden. The 5Ah battery is heavy and I prefer to use the 2.5Ah in the hedge cutter etc.

Thanks, what prompted me to look at EGO, was the current offer they have where they will throw in a free 5ah provided you have a minimum spend which is achievable if, as I do, want some other tools e.g. pole saw and hedge trimmer.
From what I've read EGOs battery technology seems very good.

I've not seen the offer, but it sounds good, as the last time I looked the 5Ah battery was pretty expensive. As you say EGO seem to have good battery technology. If my batteries are fully charged and have not been used for some time they automatically discharge to half charge which I guess is something to do with ensuring longer life?
