Hi Folks. I am retiring and handing over the reigns of Green Building and The Green Building Forum to the trusty care of the AECB. As many of you will know Sally Hall and I set up the AECB way back in about 1988 and Sally is still close to the helm of that organisation so what better home for these sites?

Thank you all for your support over the years, it is you, the users of the forum that have made this such a special and cherished resource. I wish you all the best for the future, I’ll give some gentle support to the team that are taking over and I’m hopeful that Tony Cowling, (thank you Tony) will stay on as a highly respected volunteer moderator and guru for going forward.

I’m sure in the next few days the new admin folk will introduce themselves to you and ask for your wisdom and kindness as they pick up the baton. I’ll be retaining my email address for the next few weeks but I’m certain I will be left in relative peace as you are all so good at what you do best without admin intervention but I feel happy that new blood has come along to bring things up to date with your help. I’ll encourage the new admin to carefully digest your comments on what is needed to go forward.
    All the best, Keith.

Thank you Keith for hosting this forum over the past years, and for organizing the transition to AECB. Both are much appreciated.

And enjoy your well-deserved retirement :)

I echo sentiments expressed by others. It has been very useful sharing issues and getting solutions in a friendly manner. Best wishes for your retirement. I have not been able to comment or start a thread for about 2-3 weeks due to some conflict in the software somewhere. I am hoping that my comment here will post.

I have recently had the same problem on my desk-top using either Firefox or Chrome with windows 10 however my lap-top with Windows 7 (at the moment) seems OK.

No problems here with Firefox throughout. On linux.

    +1 thanks to Keith

I hope the AECB admin will introduce themselves soon, before making any changes

I got this message a short time back. I never sorted out proper access to make new posts. I will try another browser than Chrome.

Sorry for delay getting back to you. Please check that your browser allows you to interact with ‘untrusted sites’ that should let you proceed as normal.
  3.
Many thanks for sorting this, Keith!

I have been away for some weeks, hence delayed comments. I have found GBF and its members extremely helpful over the years, and you and Sally too. Thanks so much for all your hard work on this over the years.

I look forward to participating in the 'new' forum.

    Best wishes,

    Nick

*Hey, that's weird! I was able to post that while it tells me at the top of the page that I am not signed in... (?????)*
  5.
    Testing that again!

IIRC some parts of the forum are public and don't require logging in, whereas the rest is members-only and does require logging in. I'm permanently logged-in so I'm not sure.

Thanks djh. I see also that although I was signed out my username and p'wd seemed to have auto-filled themselves on the reply pro-forma. Deleted p'wd and trying again...
  7.
That was it! Once I had deleted the auto-filled p'wd it didn't allow sending.

I just tried a test run above (.) and it allowed me to submit a comment even though it's telling me at the top of the page that I'm not signed in. Actually I did sign in beforehand!

"Just installing ASHP and rads in the property.

Best practice suggests flow into rads should be top and return should be at bottom. (Opposite ends if length more than 4x height)

So that means TRV's on top and standard lockshield on bottom. Would you even use TRV's on rads or only in bedrooms?

Secondly to avoid surface mounted pipes, I intended chasing all 'tails' and using transition pipes to come out of the walls. Is there an easier way to do this minimising joints or any tips? We intend to use 25 and 16mm PEX pipe as suggested by ASHP company

    Ceilings currently down

    Thinking of:
    1. Chase downstairs rads fed form above
    2. Updatoirs rads perhaps going UK conventional and just have tails straight up from floor?

    Thoughts?"

I cannot post this anywhere else in forum?

There's been lots of discussions with various people having problems. Basically the forum software hasn't changed whilst the browsers that people use has in many cases. I still use Firefox on a desktop computer and that still works even though it is a newer version. People who use browsers on phones and people who use Chrome or chrome-based browsers have said they have problems. Don't remember about other combinations.

Well, yes, but it's telling you the truth. As long as you don't use the same password for anything else (like your bank!) there's no need to worry.
