Testing a system with potential voids - the test, if done gently and with an IR thermometer on the pipework will show up any air locks.

Of course air locks will have to be eliminated but it is nice to see where they are so that you know where to modify the pipework or put in an automatic vent valve.

Thank you all for your replies . I will come back to some of them with further details. It sounds like I made need to purchase an infrared thermometer and take some readings. However to answer some of the questions. The akvaterm tank is rated at 3 bar.

 Thinking more

The water volume sitting in the boiler and the towel rad circuit is quite small, maybe 50 litres. If the pump is not running or is restricted, then the 17kW power of the boiler will overheat this volume very quickly, eg it will take about 6 minutes to go up from 70deg to boiling. Seems important that the pump is kept running the whole time, if the stat turns it off even a few minutes it could be too late coming back on (see Paddy's comment)

The expansion vessel needs to be about 150litres for this big store, so from a commercial rather than domestic range. Similar size as a conventional house hot water cylinder. If there isn't space then the store and wood stove could be converted to open vented, and the oil boiler and rads pressurised and connected with a coil or phx.

Is this one of the (rather lovely) cookers with auto pellet feeder and electric burner fans? They may accept an on/off signal from the CH controller, that could be more useful for preventing overheating than turning the pump on and off.

There are quite a few safety and operational problems raised in this thread which might seem a bit daunting. However rest assured the big ticket items are all in place and it's just about sorting out the important details, shouldn't be too £ !
