Since starting this endeavor we have not had a working alarm and I really don't know where to go next.

All I know for certain is, a new external sounder has not solved the issue so presumably, it is nothing to do with the sounder.
But the panel works just fine on batteries alone, the warning (very loud beep beep beep from the external sounder, not the normal alarm siren) only occurs when I insert the mains fuse.

Presumably something on the panel board is causing a fault. But I know nothing about how to find and/or resolve electronic issues.

The alternatives, I could spend a small fortune to engage an engineer who will probably tell me that I need a new control panel. In which case, I may as well buy one anyway and fit it myself.

Any further suggestions most welcome.

Hopefully, finally managed to attach a sound file!!!

Was recommend to do two things. First was a factory reset but that has not stopped the beeping when the mains is on.

The other was to check the DC voltage with power off and on. Apparently, meter on AC, pos probe to12v DC, neg to mains earth and check with mains off and on.

In the photo, the mains earth is arrowed; the AC reading with mains off at 1,2,3 4 are .26, .26 .26 and .26

With main on, the readings are .27, .27, .21 and .36

Not being an electrics expert, I have no idea what these reading imply. Grateful for some enlightenment.

Thanks

Posted By: RexHopefully, finally managed to attach a sound file!!!
Well it was a sound file, after I unzipped it, but it just sounds like noise; no beeps or whatever?

The other was to check the DC voltage with power off and on.
I'd expect to check a DC voltage with the meter set to DC and the probes to the two DC terminals (1 & 2 ?). Connecting one probe to earth suggests looking for an earth leak or such like?

Photo on previous page, the mains earth appears to just terminate at that block and isn't connected to anything. This is ok if the box is double insulated plastic.
In which case, voltage measurements from mains earth doesn't mean anything.

Measure in DC mode between 1 to 2 (supply from battery) and in AC mode from 3 to 4 (supply from low voltage winding of mains transformer) and see if anything seems odd.

Could any wiring between the panel and the sounder have got loose or damaged?

Agreed about the mains earth but it has always been like that. And until this recent 'noise' the system has been working fine.

Question of interruption but that pulsing 'noise' is the sound that now comes from the external sounder when the mains is connected. On the battery, everything is fine, but it is that noise that just started and now, I cannot find how to get rid of it.

Having replaced the external sounder, and it still makes that noise, but only comes when the mains fuse is inserted, can only conclude that the main panel has a fault. Which does not make sense since as I say, everything is fine on the battery.

"Could any wiring between the panel and the sounder have got loose or damaged? " Anything is possible but there is only one wire between the panel and external sounder. Although it is a timber frame house, most unlikely that the wire has become damaged by rodents or whatever. Certainly, that wire does span a cavity to the sounder, but again, everything is fine on the battery.

New panel arrived and i will be fitting it in due course. However, have also decided to add an internal sounder since the house is so well sealed that if A.N.Other broke in at the back and triggered a sensor, he would not even hear the alarm at the front of the house.

So will fit a Kinetic Sound Bomb to at least, make the interior less comfortable. It only has two wires. The Accenta Gen4 Mini engineer manual shows how to wire and external sounder/speaker, but seems to me that it will work when the alarm is counting down.

I therefore assume that the sound bomb should be connected to the external sounder board terminals, D and B so that it only operates when the alarm is activated?

Fitted the replacement panel today and everything is working as it should. No 'noise' from the external sounder when the mains is connected so can only conclude that something on the panel had 'freaked out.'

Now I have to reprogram the RKP but it is working on the default code.

As an aside, I did fit a Sound Bomb to terminas B and D. It does what it should but...........

With the alarm not working (i.e. we are in the house) the sound bomb has a very faint background electronic buzz. One has to listen closely to hear it but since the panel is in a cubby hole in the guest bedroom, it may be audible in the silence of the night.

Is this normal?
