From the IKEA web site
Quote
Getting started with TRÅDFRI smart lighting - IKEA

IKEA is launching 21 new smart home products focusing on lighting, sensors, and control — all built to work with Matter, the universal smart home standard.
End quote

From the internet
Quote
Matter is an open, universal standard for smart home devices that aims to improve interoperability, security, and simplicity. Developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, Matter acts as a common language allowing devices from different manufacturers to communicate with each other and with various ecosystems. This means a device certified with Matter will work with any other Matter-certified device or hub, regardless of the brand.
End quote

So it appears that the importance is that your controller is 'Matter' compliant.

'Matter' ??? you learn something everyday!!

 Oh
And just to make things better (maybe ???)
Quote
Yes, you can control IKEA smart bulbs with Alexa, either by using a gateway or by connecting directly to an Alexa device that has a built-in Zigbee hub. Once connected, you can use voice commands to turn the lights on/off, change colors, and adjust brightness, as well as control them through the Amazon Alexa app
End quote

So Amazon will get to know even more of your life habits !!!

I use a lot of the IKEA smart gear (bulbs, switches, motion sensors and plugs) but directly through Zigbee integration in Home Assistant (not using the IKEA hub).

I've just added some GU10 bulbs, created an HA group and can control via a remote switch or diectly from HA.

They work really well.

Home Assistant is just brilliant - everything under one hood instead of multiple different Apps.
