My 4 yo inverter has possibly died. It is not covered by any warranty as GE went bust earlier this year.

I have spoken to the installer and they are looking into my options. They can supply a new inverter I think.

I am pretty poor on understanding the electrics, so if anyone can help me out that will be appreciated.

I think my inverter has failed because I signed up to Axle energy to sell some of my surplus energy. They took control of the inverter on 7th July and I know for a fact the inverter was down from 11th July and has been ever since. I should have checked everything was ok aster the first control event by Axle energy, but I didn't.

Is it likely Axle energy have caused by inverter to die or is it coincidence ?

Is the inverter dead as in there are no lights/display illuminated or is it just not generating/communicating??

I think that when Axle take control they may have to alter the config to get the inverter to export when they want it to. Maybe worth speaking to them?

Another thing to check on is how the inverter responds to no DC input from either the battery or PV. Even if there's mains connected to our Solis inverter it will shut down if there's no DC input. The solis inverter is there to manage our battery but doesnt have any PV connected. If the battery is flat or switched off then the inverter is dead even with the grid connected!! If we allowed Axle to take what they want from the battery and they flattened it, the inverter would shut down. We'd then have to manually recharge the battery to get the inverter running so it could recharge the battery from the grid. Got the tee shirt for that due to faulty battery that was repaired and returned today:)

All this is new to me.

I have sorted out the tripped MCB on my fuse board which connects to the solar meter next to the inverter. So that is now working.

The battery has been showing fully charged every day since Axle E took some energy.

The inverter is offline and not showing any lights on the box.

I have emailed Axle but then send an email saying I need to reset the system.

I have turned everything off and left it off for 5 mins, then I switched all the knobs back to on (big knob under the inverter, big master red one next to the inverter, also the big trip switch next to the inverter plus the battery.

No joy after.

I spoke to my installer and they will come back to me. They cannot see any activity on the inverter since 11th July. They think it may have died, but they are not fully sure. I think the tech guy is asking the main instal guy about it. They are not a big outfit.

If your battery is fully charged after Axle took some energy then the inverter is likely to have recharged the battery after Axle accessed the inverter. That suggests the inverter was working and may have failed sometime after Axles intervention?? Something failing in the inverter could have caused the MCB to trip??

Probably best to wait til your installer has a look at it and do a proper hands on diagnosis

Yes just waiting to see how long they take to help. But why would the inverter fail now ? Around the time Axle has taken over the inverter. Very strange

There's 4 days between Axle using the battery and the apparent failure of the inverter so not directly due to Axle?? Maybe a coincidence. Maybe Axle worked the inverter at it's discharge limit and that high load has found a design or manufacturing flaw??
