			<![CDATA[Right - so the whole house is a wonder. 1673. 15 Stuart years before the 'Glorious Revolution' (almost bloodless) in which Parliament invited in a German to be the new King, but only if he signed that Parliament was supreme, for the first time. The foundation of the modern West's way of doing politics, and Britain's then reputation as the crucible of freedom! So William of Orange became the first monarch to have strictly constrained power, in Britain, but was still the absolute prince Elector of Hannover, which then took its orders from London. Strange days.]]>

			<![CDATA[A great example - it's remarkable how long timber can last!<br /><br />I was impressed by a couple of 'Stave churches' in Norway - some of the timbers from Urnes were dated to 1069 & 1070. Though it's not necessary to go that far; Greensted church in Essex has a few planks from 1053. Maybe even the same craftsmen?]]>
