The larger the amount is, the lower the value by unit length. Cut it into 1 metre patch cables, and PC World will try and sell it to you for thrity quid! Sell it in bulk and you'll get a fraction of that.

You could try contacting one of the home automation installation companies and seeing if they'd be interested in taking it from you. Otherwise, ebay isn't a bad place to try. Again though, selling it as shorter lengths will probably get you more money than selling it in bulk.

    Where are you based?
  1.
The intriguing question is how come you've got three tonnes of the stuff. That sounds like several 1 metre lengths.

it's solid copper, used for installing under raised floor in offices - useless as patch leads - the latter are made from stranded copper, so the cable can flex without breaking so much. We are removing cat 5 cable & installing cat 5E cable - it allowws faster data transmission
  2.
Must be a lot of offices. I wonder how old the cable is. Talk about a throwaway society. I hope the archticts never claimed these were 'green' offices. Anyway, three tonnes at £8000 per tonne is a nice little earner.

Lot of plastic in that three tons.

you may get £500 tonne at the right place
some scrappies have grinders were they mince up the cable then extract the copper
or they may put it down as mixed metals , my local one usely gives me this for electricial cable off cuts, switches , boards etc

I used to install cat5 back in the day when it paid well , I thought it ran up to 10meg
aren't they up to cat 6-7 now , even though a 10meg connection is still way fast enough

    My friends a business consultant
apprantly there are 2 approaches he uses
    1. your not spending enough on IT
    2. your spending to much on IT

he gets paid very well using this simple formula flowered up in some manner
