    He's been very friendly and helpful, and did invite further Qs. I warned him I was gonna post info from his answers, so feel free to refer to this.

    Hope I'm not getting too promotional about his product - doubtless I'd have criticisms if I'd actually tried it. Also, I have the Alpha installation/user manuals with more specs, if you're interested. Eg, insulation on Alpha SolarSmart solar tank is 50 mm "EPP foam" (?don't understand why this and not XPS).

    I wonder if there's a choice where to site the diverter valve? If so, could bunging it right at the solar tank outlet solve the problem? Insulated pipe/valve closer to temp of tank; v short run-off - just turn the tap on slowly.

    Polypropylene can sustain higher working temperatures than polystyrene.
