    From the Advertising Standards Authority website;

    "A full-page, regional press ad showed several pictures of different designs of UPVC windows and was headed "eco windows - economical on price - ecological on design...."

    http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/adjudications/Public/TF_ADJ_45066.htm

    Its encouraging to see the the watchdog is doing its job and not being influenced by spin. BRE could do with some similar expertise in how to handle the admen.

    Monty,
    Judgement seems to be based on a slightly outdated premise. Certainly the issue of recycling old PVC windows for new is possibly a little far fetched but there are many companies recycling PVC for other uses.
    A company of my acquaintance in mainland Europe is recycling PVC windows etc and producing flat sheet material for external cladding. Demand is so high they are actually running short of raw material i.e scrap PVC, to recycle.
    As part of the manufacturing process and in order to increase the structural strength of the cladding sheets they add a mineral filler which can be silica and so they can use the window glass also. End product is extremely durable, can be thermoformed to replicate brickwork, tiling etc, is in itself recyclable and of course cheap and now available in the UK

    It's encouraging that in this country we have not only print censorship via an active official Ministry of Truth, but also complete twerps that will actually take time out of their lives to initiate it? I just hope the "reader" who complained was a business rival; that would at least be understandable corruption.

    To me this is very discouraging.

    On "clean coal".

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/oct/30/fossilfuels-carbonemissions

    "The British government is as deep into clean-coal cuckoo land as any of them. John Hutton, until recently business secretary, claimed that a third of British electricity could be generated using CCS by 2030 – clearly pie in the sky. He should fire the adviser who wrote that for him. The mirage of clean coal is designed to coax the world into maintaining its addiction to the most dangerous (and profuse) fossil fuel of all. My bet is that if Kingsnorth is approved, it will never deliver so much as a tonne of carbon dioxide to anywhere other than the atmosphere."

    Controlling advertising is not the same thing at all as censoring print.
