>Woodburner with back boiler

Is this going to be on a gravity hot water circuit, or a sealed system? Do you have a chimney?

>GSHP ( whoops! )

That's easy - £20k at least to connect o an existing underfloor heating circuit.

>Solar DHW

Another £3k? - again straightforward.

>Boiler for back up

If you're not on gas about another £5k for a boiler and oil tank. Be aware that unless you have an extremely fancy thermal store, your boiler won't be condensing very much!

any other ideas?

>Thermal store -v - cylinder

I don't see the point of thermal stores...

Thanks everyone, as new build still at building regulation stage I can have what want as long as I can afford it! ( not much then! )

We are drilling on site which is why I MAY concider GSHP ( not convinced ).

It makes it more difficult really because I dont understand the choices well enough to know what I want/need.

 Hi Cassie

I'm leeds based, just about to start out in the installation world properly, but trained in domestic solar hot water, solar pv, wind, and have a pretty good understanding of GSHP, woodburners, insulation etc.

I wouldn't be able to actually do any gas work because I'm not corgi registered (or gas trained), but then I'm not really sure why you'd need a gas boiler if you had solar, GSHP, woodfuel burner/boiler and interseasonal heat storage, particularly not if it's new build and you were going to have to pay for the gas to be connected anyway - better to use that money on making the house fully self sufficient I'd have thought.

Other than the gas, I should be ok for the rest I'd have thought (I am certified for unvented cylinder installation)... I'm in the middle of an eco renovation of a 4 storey 1903 semi in Leeds, just finished an 80 tube, 2 tank with heat dump loop (some limited interseasonal heat storage involved) solar hot water install, run using pv powered 12 volt pumps on a 4 storey roof using roped access (no scaffolding), and am moving onto the insulation side of things at the moment. I've also done the green power and water side of various festivals over the last 10 years or so, so have a fair amount of experience of all sorts of stuff including low voltage off grid renewable electric systems.

I'd be up for nipping out and having a chat with you in the next few days if you wanted to have a chat around what you're wanting to do as it sounds like an interesting project, and isn't too far from me. Just so you understand, I'm not a fully experienced expert in everything you want to do, more a pretty knowledgable, fairly well trained, person with some experience, looking to get more experience and potentially try out some ideas (around interseasonal storage of solar heating mixed with GSHP) - and to be able to have some more examples of projects I've worked on. Whatever fee would be involved would reflect this, and It means I'd have the time to spend more time with you working through the various options, but I'd likely be a bit slower on the actual installations than someone who's been installing for years.

anyway, let me know if you'd like me to come out to meet up with you for a chat about what you're wanting to do (or if you'd prefer to come and meet me at the house in leeds so you can see what I've done here?)

Gav

 Hi Cassie and Gav/Free spirit

I work in Leeds (well Wetherby) - designing renewable systems (amoungst other stuff) - maybe we could work together on a solution. Although I do some installation work I avoid it so I am looking for people to work with doing installations.

I have designed 'hybrid system' like the type you are proposing so could give some guidance

(e-mail on my account)
