Just a question really. I have an internal stone wall, by the side of a brick fire place, and over time, a white furry substance appears on the stone, does anybody know what it is and how I can stop this??
I'd guess some kind of lime related 'seepage' -- use a wire or soft brush to scrub it off. If it is lime related then it's better to let the wall breath and the substance to appear than try the 'trap' it in the wall.

Perhaps try testing it in some acid (vinegar) & see if it dissolves.

could be lime but also possibly efflorescence (salts in the ground or stone itself).
